The water must comply with DSanPiN 2.2.4-171-10 (&#8220;Hygienic requirements for drinking water intended for human consumption&#8221;).<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u04122 \u2014 fire-fighting<\/strong> supply: for extinguishing fire or preventing its spread. The water may be of non-potable quality \u2014 the main requirement is a constant water presence in the system and sufficient pressure.<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u04123 \u2014 industrial<\/strong> supply: for technological needs; it may consist of several systems with water of different quality, pressure and volume.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In most offices the basis is the domestic-drinking supply (\u04121), with fire-fighting (\u04122) added where standards require it. A modern hot water supply must have two pipes in the building: <strong>\u04223 \u2014 the supply pipe<\/strong> (from which water is drawn) and <strong>\u04224 \u2014 the circulation pipe<\/strong> (for constant circulation of hot water so its temperature doesn&#8217;t drop below the allowed level). Note the distinction: designations \u04221-\u04222 refer to heating systems and are not part of the water supply. Depending on the regime and volume of consumption, hot water systems can be local or central.<\/p>\n<h2>Water temperature: standards worth considering<\/h2>\n<p>Temperature standards are not a formality but a matter of comfort and safety. Here are the key benchmarks:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Cold water<\/strong> at draw-off points \u2014 at least <strong>5\u00b0C<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hot water<\/strong> \u2014 within <strong>50-70\u00b0C<\/strong>, but not above <strong>75\u00b0C<\/strong>, to avoid scalding.<\/li>\n<li>In individual water heaters (boilers) the optimal temperature is <strong>55-60\u00b0C<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This boiler range is not accidental. Above 60\u00b0C the heating element starts to scale up with limescale, while below 55\u00b0C bacteria \u2014 legionella in particular \u2014 multiply intensively in stagnant water: the water begins to smell unpleasant and can be dangerous for certain groups of people. As prevention, it is advised to briefly heat the boiler water to <strong>70-80\u00b0C<\/strong> \u2014 at that temperature the whole colony dies almost instantly (for comparison, at 60\u00b0C only 90% of the colony dies within 30 minutes).<\/p>\n<h2>Types of water routing in an office<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Water routing<\/strong> \u2014 the configuration of the pipe network \u2014 is chosen according to the consumption regime, the building&#8217;s purpose and fire-safety requirements. There are four main types:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Dead-end networks<\/strong> are used where an interruption in the water supply is acceptable if part or all of the network fails \u2014 residential, public and sometimes industrial buildings.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ring (looped) networks<\/strong> are needed where reliable, uninterrupted supply matters: high-rises, buildings with a fire-fighting supply, industrial premises.
